Applications are now open for the EU GREEN Student Ambassador Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year, offering students at nine European partner universities the chance to become ambassadors for sustainability, inclusion and innovation in their university communities.

EU GREEN students in a sustainability workshop

The programme will bring together students from across the EU GREEN Alliance, a European university alliance built around sustainability, who want to play an active role in the Alliance, connect with an international student community and promote EU GREEN opportunities, initiatives and values, according to the Alliance.

135 places across nine universities

Each partner university will select up to 15 Student Ambassadors, with a maximum of three ambassadors in each of five categories. Across the Alliance, the community is therefore expected to bring together approximately 135 students.

Selected students will act as EU GREEN Student Ambassadors, representing both their home university and the Alliance while helping strengthen student participation, communication and engagement across EU GREEN.

Five ambassador roles

Students can apply for one of five areas: Mobility, promoting mobility opportunities and sharing first-hand student mobility experiences; Innovation, contributing to innovation and innovative projects; Inclusion, supporting inclusion and sharing good practices; Social Engagement, contributing to social engagement activities and stakeholder involvement; and Campus, promoting their university campus and raising awareness of local and regional good practices.

Ambassadors will collaborate with students and university staff across Europe, support the dissemination of EU GREEN opportunities and initiatives, and may participate in international meetings, workshops, training sessions and networking activities.

Who can apply

The call is open to students from all disciplines enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral programme at any of the nine EU GREEN partner universities. Applicants must have at least a B1 level of English, with B2 or above considered an asset.

Candidates should also demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, confidence using social media and digital communication tools, motivation and initiative, and the ability to work in multicultural and international environments. Applications will be assessed by the candidate’s home university, taking into account academic performance, motivation, previous academic and extracurricular engagement, communication skills and alignment with EU GREEN’s mission and values.

The application deadline is 31 October 2026.

Recognition and opportunities

Depending on the regulations of each home university, participation in the programme may be recognised through ECTS credits, an official Certificate of Appointment and/or Participation, or other forms of institutional recognition.

Where funding is available, Student Ambassadors may also have opportunities to participate in mobility activities, international events, training initiatives and other EU GREEN activities. Financial support is subject to available funding and cannot be guaranteed. The Student Ambassador role is voluntary and does not constitute an employment relationship with EU GREEN or its partner universities.

An alliance built on sustainability

EU GREEN is an alliance of nine European universities committed to sustainability-oriented education, research and innovation: the University of Gävle in Sweden, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences in Poland, the University of Parma in Italy, the University of Angers in France, the University of Évora in Portugal, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in Germany, Atlantic Technological University in Ireland, the University of Oradea in Romania and the University of Extremadura in Spain.

In July 2026 the Alliance secured 7.2 million euros in funding under the European Commission’s 2026 Erasmus+ European Universities call, supporting its next phase of development from 2026 to 2028, including joint educational programmes, mobility pathways and research collaboration.
