What the Hamburg Sustainability Conference Youth Ambassador programme offers

Selected ambassadors do more than attend the conference: they contribute their insights, experiences and solutions to global leaders working towards a sustainable future, join conference sessions as speakers or participants depending on their expertise, and engage directly with more than 1,600 decision-makers — including heads of state and government.

Ambassadors also meet press representatives and local youth in Hamburg, expand their professional networks, and exchange ideas with fellow Youth Ambassadors from around the world before, during and after the conference.

Who can apply

Age and residence

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old, and must come from and reside in a Global South country. Eligibility follows the OECD DAC List of ODA Recipients — the application form’s “country of residence” dropdown decides whether a country qualifies.

Leadership and commitment

Candidates should be young leaders actively driving sustainability efforts in their communities, able to communicate confidently in English, and ready to dedicate time to the programme — including preparatory work ahead of the conference and the Roundtable Series on 7–11 December 2026 in a partner country.

Timeline

  • 19 October 2026: application deadline
  • End of October 2026: interview rounds with shortlisted candidates
  • End of October / early November 2026: participation confirmation
  • 7–11 December 2026: HSC Youth Roundtable Series
  • 31 May–1 June 2027: Hamburg Sustainability Conference

About the conference

The Hamburg Sustainability Conference brings together leaders from government, business, finance and civil society to accelerate progress on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Its Youth Ambassador cohort is part of the effort to put young voices at the centre of those conversations.

With the deadline on 19 October, eligible young leaders have only a few days left to submit their applications through the conference’s official application form.
