Sweden’s Patriot deployment to Poland
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the decision at a press conference on Tuesday, saying the Patriot system will protect NATO’s logistics hub in Poland and thereby ensure that important military and civilian materiel reaches Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said the contribution was vital in light of Russia’s recent attempts to undermine support for Ukraine, while Defence Minister Pål Jonson said the armed forces assessed the risks of the deployment as manageable and described it as part of NATO’s integrated air and missile defence.

Patriot air defence system to Poland guards Ukraine aid corridor
The Rzeszów-Jasionka hub coordinates the flow of military equipment to Ukraine, handling roughly 18,000 tonnes of material each month, according to NATO. Polish broadcaster TVN reported that around 90 percent of international aid for Ukraine passes through the hub.
The deployment marks the first time Sweden has sent its Patriot system on an official NATO task. It follows last week’s announcement that Swedish Gripen fighter jets would join NATO’s air-policing mission over Poland. Poland’s defence minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, thanked Sweden and the Netherlands for their role in defending Polish airspace and NATO’s eastern flank.
