The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 opens in New Delhi on 2 November, bringing together policymakers, investors, financial institutions and industry leaders from more than 130 countries to advance investment, innovation and partnerships in renewable energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the four-day summit at Bharat Mandapam in the Indian capital.
The summit, organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, runs from 2 to 5 November under the theme Invest. Innovate. Inspire. More than 40 ministers are expected, alongside over 400 exhibitors showcasing technologies across solar and wind power, green hydrogen, energy storage and other emerging areas.
Three clean-energy platforms together
The summit is held alongside the ninth session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen, bringing three major clean-energy platforms together in one week. Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom are participating as country partners.
Thirteen states and union territories are also taking part as partner states, showcasing their renewable energy potential, investment opportunities and manufacturing capabilities: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

308 GW today, 500 GW by 2030
India’s clean energy transition is entering a decisive phase, according to the ministry. The country has 308 GW of installed non-fossil fuel capacity and is firmly on course to reach its 500 GW target by 2030, Ministry Secretary Santosh Sarangi said at the ministry’s briefing ahead of the summit.
Reaching that ambition will require approximately 220 billion dollars in investment between 2027 and 2030, alongside faster deployment of energy storage, stronger transmission networks and expanded domestic manufacturing, the ministry said. India ranks third globally in renewable and solar installed capacity and fourth in wind capacity, and attracted 63.7 billion dollars in renewable energy investment between July 2024 and June 2026, according to BloombergNEF figures cited by the ministry.
Capacity and generation are not the same thing: installed capacity is what plants could produce at full output, while actual electricity generation depends on sunshine, wind, plant availability, storage and grid capacity. That is why the ministry pairs its capacity target with storage, transmission and manufacturing plans.
What the summit is for
The summit builds on RE-INVEST, India’s flagship renewable energy investment platform, and aims to connect global capital, technology and industry expertise with India’s growing clean energy opportunities, translating investment potential into projects, partnerships and progress. The expo programme also includes a national hackathon, a renewable energy quiz and a REGen pavilion, and will recognise the winners of the Bharat Renewable Energy Hackathon 2026.
The summit opens one week before COP31, the United Nations climate conference in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026, where the energy transition and climate finance are central themes. For more climate coverage, see the Climate section on Watan News.
