A murder investigation has been launched after a 40-year-old man was shot dead in what police described as a “senseless act of violence” during a memorial service in East Acton, west London. Officers were called just before 7.50pm on Friday after multiple shots were heard at the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street. The East Acton shooting claimed the life of a man in his 40s despite the best efforts of paramedics, and it has shaken a community gathering that included children.

East Acton Shooting: Murder Inquiry Launched

Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, but the man was pronounced dead despite the best efforts of medical staff. A police cordon remains in place in Braybrook Street while detectives begin their work. This story is developing — follow updates on Watan News’ main edition.

The investigation is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of a man whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence.” He added: “Someone knows what happened and we need them to come forward.”

Witness Appeal

Police are urging anyone who was around Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, the surrounding roads or the nearby Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6pm and 8pm on Friday to think carefully about what they saw. Investigators want to hear about anything suspicious — from individuals carrying or concealing weapons to people on bicycles acting suspiciously or vehicles being driven at speed.

Anyone with photographs, video, dashcam, doorbell or mobile-phone footage — or who has seen anything relevant on social media — is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police. The victim’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers while a post-mortem is arranged.

Community Impact

The shooting struck a gathering of 40 to 50 people — including children — who had come together for a memorial service. “We understand a large number of people had gathered for a memorial service, and what should have been a time to come together in remembrance has instead left a family devastated,” DCI Howie said. The sudden violence at an event meant for quiet reflection has left many in the local community traumatised.
