Fiji og Tuvalu er værter for møderne før COP31

Fiji er vært for forberedelsesmødet før COP31, og Tuvalu for et ledermøde, fra den 5. til den 8. oktober 2026, i partnerskab med Australien. Det står på siden COP31 Australia-Pacific.

Et andet sted på samme side står der, at Australien og Stillehavet er værter for Pre-COP i Fiji og for et ledermøde i Fiji og Tuvalu på de samme datoer. Samlingerne skal hjælpe med at forme prioriteterne til COP31 og vise klimaløsninger ledet fra Stillehavet. Türkiye er vært for COP31 i Antalya fra den 9. til den 20. november 2026. Australien er forhandlingsformand og arbejder med Türkiye som COP31-formand om mål, regler og ambitioner. Siden siger, at konferencen handler om levering: at gøre tilsagn under Parisaftalen til praktiske resultater.

Den begrundelse siden giver

Parterne i FN’s rammekonvention om klimaændringer og i Parisaftalen mødes hvert år til partskonferencen, som siden kalder verdens vigtigste klimamøde. Fælles handling virker, står der. Før Parisaftalen var verden på vej mod omkring 4 graders opvarmning. I dag ligger kursen tættere på 2,6 grader. Ren energi beskrives som billig, pålidelig og den hurtigst voksende kilde til globale investeringer, efter at tidligere COP’er satte omstillingen i gang, teknologien gjorde den mulig, og økonomien nu driver den. COP31 skal give mere fart, hjælpe parterne med at gennemføre hurtigere og holde 1,5-gradersmålet inden for rækkevidde.

Australiens mål på siden er et hurtigere globalt skift til ren energi, mere finansiering og investering, en større grøn økonomi og en højere plads til Stillehavets prioriteter. Tilgangen til forhandlingerne beskrives som åben, inkluderende og rådførende, formet af First Nations-viden fra 65.000 års omsorg for landet. Sammen med Stillehavets østater skal Türkiye og Australien løfte en handlingsdagsorden for COP31, herunder en session om de små østaters behov for klimafinansiering. Gennem COP31 Pacific Partnership skal stillehavsstemmer blive i centrum: 1,5-gradersmålet, adgang til klimafinansiering, havets plads i klimaet og i modstandskraften, og stillehavslederskab.
