Tre COP31-udsendinge fra Stillehavet: Stege, Yamuna og Seruiratu

Stillehavets klimaudsendinge til COP31 er tre personer, navngivet i en fælles meddelelse fra Stillehavsøernes Forums sekretariat dateret 15. juni 2026. Regionens klimaministre godkendte dem. De blev derefter udpeget i et fælles brev fra COP31’s præsidentudpegede og forhandlingsformanden.

Kristina Eonemto Stege fra Marshalløerne er udsending for Oceanien. Hendes opgave er at holde 1,5 grader inden for rækkevidde. Ruel Yamuna fra Papua Ny Guinea er udsending for adgang til klimafinansiering. Inia B. Seruiratu, medlem af Fijis parlament, er udsending for havet.

Hvad hvert mandat dækker

Meddelelsen siger, at de tre vil presse på for stærkere støtte fra regeringer, internationale organisationer og andre uden for staten. Med COP31-partnerskabet mellem Australien og Stillehavet i ryggen skal de arbejde med værten Tyrkiet frem mod en konference bygget på resultater, høring, gensidig respekt og fælles ansvar. De skal deltage i formøder på Fiji og Tuvalu og føre den samme linie ind i forhandlingerne i Antalya. COP31 er fastsat til 9.–20. november 2026 i Antalya i Tyrkiet.

Chris Bowen, Australiens minister for klimaforandringer og energi, sagde, at Australien er stolt af partnerskabet med Stillehavslandene om udpegelserne. Han sagde, at udsendingene vil tale Stillehavets sag og hjælpe med at beskytte levebrød, sikkerhed og trivsel. “Vi står stærkere sammen,” sagde han.

Forummets generalsekretær Baron Divavesi Waqa sagde, at værtskabet for formødet og medindflydelsen på COP31 bør placere Stillehavets prioriteter i resultaterne. Meddelelsen knytter udpegelserne til tilpasning, modstandsdygtighed, tab og skader, havbeskyttelse og klimafinansiering. I den ordning, der beskrives, har Tyrkiet COP31-formandskabet, Australien er forhandlingsformand, og Stillehavet er vært for formøderne.

Stege er allerede Marshalløernes klimaudsending og har arbejdet i årevis med klimadiplomati, blandt andet i High Ambition Coalition. Yamuna er Papua Ny Guineas særlige udsending for klima og miljø og suppleant i Den Grønne Klimafonds bestyrelse. Hans opgave er finansiering, der når Stillehavslandene og de samfund, der er mest udsat. Seruiratu, tidligere global klimaforkæmper, skal presse på for havenes sundhed, kysternes modstandskraft og klimaløsninger knyttet til havet. Et kontor eller en redaktion, der følger COP31, kan bruge de tre navne og mandater som Stillehavets indgang til forhandlingerne i Antalya.
